I was an exec member of the Illini Bass Club when I was getting my degree. You sign up and if you have a boat or you find someone, you're pretty set. If it's a very competitive school like Bethel or Bama, idk lol

If you get a boat, ANY school will be more than happy to have you on their team. It's unfortunate but it's reality...

1.  Go to a school that has a college fishing program, be it BASS or FLW.

2.  Have a bass boat and a place to store it while in college.

3.  Get parents to fund your college fishing including gas, insurance, upkeep, tackle, travel, shirts, dues, food, drinks, and everything else that goes with fishing tournaments. In other words, GET THAT CREDIT CARD!

4.  Be patient as there will be guys on the team who may not be as good as you but have "paid their dues" and will fish more tournaments than you may fish.

5.  Keep grades up so you stay in school and parents are happy with both school and fishing.

6.  Forget girls. Girls are the kiss of death of a college fishing guy. They don't understand bass fishing and they want to do stupid social stuff like go to dinner and a movie or a party or study. Can you imagine that? Dumb girls.

7.  Don't do anything dumb to get thrown off the team like smoke, do pot or drugs, get in fights, flunk out, get engaged, get married, get drunk, get a DUI, etc.

Now, with all that being understood you can check out which schools wherever you are (you need to add your physical location to your avatar for us) and pick out a few schools to go visit with your parents.

Good luck and by all means, get that degree.

Do you have to be enrolled in college to be able to be on the bass fishing team or can you just go without being in college for education?

wow.. curious about that also , if true then i'm getting all my fellow retiree's together to sign up and maybe start a frat on campus! ...just like "Old School"! 

I believe you have to be enrolled and in good standing with the school, meaning good grades.

Yikes! Good grades. Who in their right mind would make someone who only wants to fish get good grades to stay in school?

Yes, as long as you are enrolled in that school, have a boat, and enough for a team (a buddy that's willing to fish as well) if the school doesn't have a team you can start one by contacting FLW/Bass and they will set you up.  Now this means with the boat you must have insurance to cover you fishing in their events as well which meets their requirements..  If it's a school which already has a team, well then you have a different road to take.  But grade average will have to be maintained for sure.
