Just bought a hbird 737 for the bow and a 767 for the counsel. The bait monkey has got a hold on me in December and aint letting go, atleast until my wife leaves me. :-* Heck, if that happens he'll move in.

I've got the Lowrance 332c and I belive its the x51 on the bow. Even though the x51 maybe a basic unit I've found it to be quite nice although I still would like to replace it in the future. The 332c is very nice. Had a few problems at first because we got a bad unit, but once that was fixed its been great.

How is that Eagle 480? I've seen them around at very reasonable prices, does it show arches clear? And pick up brushpiles down deep?Shad pods?

I'm have three Lowrance X-75's, one Eagle 480, seven Lowrance 1240A's and one Lowrance X87. I bought the X87 to replace the Eagle 480 because I don't like the 480 but haven't got around to swapping them out. There are just several quirks about it I don't like. I run the 480 on the bow of one of my boats and my biggest problem is I never run in Auto, and for some reason the things reverts back to the Auto mode sometimes when I turn it on and I have to go through all my setup again. There are some other little quirks I don't like. I've been using the X-75's for a few years and love them, thought the 480 would be about the same with a 480 pixle, but ain't no where near the same. Bought the X87 on sale recently at Cabela's for $150 but haven't hooked it up yet, can't say about it. I use the 1240A's about as much as anything, all three of my bass boats have them in the bow and console, and I dash mounted one in my little Fisher tin can.

I guess I should say, as far as detail it's great and no problem with fish arches.   A couple the other things I don't like is the screen color and the back lighting.  In the summer, I do a lot of night fishing and the backlighting doesn't give you but two levels, both too bright to suit me.

I like the 480, I've gone over standing timber and picked up cedar trees plain as day around 20 or so ft.  It picks up fish very well and the arches are fairly easy to identify.  If you're looking for deep water brush piles, ie 50 -70 ft, I would look at the X135 or at least the X125.  I'm mostly a shallow(er) water fisherman so it works fine for me.

side note: I've never had a problem with it losing my settings or anything.  Everytime it comes on it resumes the last setting i've had it on..

I've got a Garmin 162 on the Dash and a pair of 1240 Lowrance flashers. One in-dash and the other up front built in.  Flashers are nice. No nonsense and give instantaneous readouts of depth.  I'll probably add a front graph in the future.

I run the x71 on console and x135 on trolling motor

one thing to remember Is you want a better unit on the front because that's where you're fishing no sense in having an extremely high resolute unit at console because it do's you no good at 70 mph but on the front you need to be able to see much more subtle changes

as far as the eagle 480 there are actually 3 of them there is the fishmark 480

the fish elite 480 and the lms 480 all three are quality and the fishmark 480 for under 200 buck's is a great deal

I feel like a bigger/better unit by the wheel would suit me better, since I've been doing it that way for so long.I do alot of cruising around looking for stuff and really cant do that much with the trolling motor.I've always done it that way and its been effective for the most part, thats just how I do it.I cruise over spots,if I see something I like,I drop the trolling motor and fish it.I wont have a total piece of junk on the front, just not a GPS unit like on the console.I've narrowed my search a great deal in the past few days,it's getting real close to trigger time.

Now, you've gone a long way from a Eagle 480 unit to a combo sonar/gps unit.

Acutally, I prefer the flasher when easing around looking.  Anything more than full slow idle, and the LCD's have a tendency to start loosing a lot of detail.  The flasher will show you everything, even at several mph.  The main reason I run LCD units is they keep a slight history of what you've passed over while you're fishing, where with a flasher, if you're not looking at it, you can miss stumps and other fish holding structure.   The biggest draw back to a flasher, it seems to be most people don't know how to read for anything other than bottom contour, where they actually show you everthing the LCD does, just doesn't draw you a picture.

I also pefer my best LCD on the bow, but I don't buy LCD/GPS combo units.

I have an in dash flasher and can use and read it quite well......I like it but I also like to see the picture because as you said, you miss stuff with the flasher if you dont pay real close attention. And when I say cruising around,I'm actually meaning putt, putt, putting along slowly around points and ledges.I've decided on a GPS unit, now that I have another Aqua Vu camera and will need the GPS to find stuff again.Especially on different lakes.

Are you selling any of those 1240's you got?My dad needs one for his boat.
