ernel
To answer your questions with a question. Why do you think your lower unit needs changing?
Ben
First, there are too many different kinds to answer this without knowing the motor's Make, Size, Model Year. I will say LU's are not cheap and are not just changed out ever so often like they are a disposable item. As one has already asked, why. You should change the gear oil at least every fall and change the water pump, and grease splines every three or four years but unless it's making strange noises or your getting lots of metal flakes/water when you change the oil, not sure why you would want to change it. JT Bagwell
It is not uncommon for a lower unit to cost $5,000 plus for your bigger motors. JT Bagwell
Yankee_Bassman
Get a Clymer or Seloc manual for your motor. You can order them from Amazon, or pick one up at West Marine or Boat USA. The manual will walk you through the process. BUT, I also would like to know why you think you need to replace it?
