Need trolling motor advice for a Jon boat.

Featured Replies

I've got a 14 ft Jon Boat. I fish a lot of small lakes around the Atlanta area that do not allow gas motors so I've got a bow mount 28lb thrust (old mercury R28) and a Motor Guide 48lb thrust transom mount motor. I'm looking for more power. The old Mercury R28 operates fine but I'm wondering if I can get more power from something like a 50 lb thrust bow mount model. I particularly like the ones that would allow me to operate the bow motor from the rear of the boat wirelessly, remotely or with a long foot control cable (see Motor Guide Wireless).

Am I going to realize noticable increases in speed by upgrading my bow mount trolling motor by about 25 or 30 lbs of thrust? Also, does anybody have experience with these somewhat "non-traditional" methods of controlling a bow mount motor? I like the idea of being able to turn it on without holding a button down and control it without rocking my foot back and forth.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Yes you will see a pretty good increase in speed and will be able to cut threw weeds much easier.
