how long would you leave your rig in the water?

Featured Replies

Just curious about this. You live on a lake (woo-hoo!) and you leave your boat in the water most of the time, fishing three times a week, roughly. How often do you take it out to clean it up, etc.? I'm thinking of hull marine growth, etc...

in my opinion, i'd take it out to clean it every other weekend or so just because its fun. probably doens't need it that much but its better to be safe than sorry. marine growth might not even be a factor if ur boat is on the move that much.

The saltwater boat comes out every 3rd weekend, sea grass is a beatch up here.

Freshwater maybe once.  When I lived on the lake, if I pulled it out at all it was for lower end inspection, etc, but it would get a quick scrub just the same.

I'm bad; it only comes out if it needs to. makes the water stains harder to remove in the fall, but I find that pool liner cleaner does a good job. Growth isn't much of a problem on the lake; nothing like the salt water stuff.

I was wondering the same thing, Thanks for asking the question. I am contemplating putting my boat in a marina for the season ( may to october here). They want $1000 for a slip with no lift or $1800 for a slip with a lift. Other than staining and a dirty boat is there a down side to leaving your boat in the water for that amount of time?  I'm having a hard time swallowing the $1800.

thanks

I think the upsides outweigh the downsides. The only problem I've had in the past was near the end of summer, when I took the boat out to clean and having ti get the crap off the bottom. BUt always having it in the water is great because going out just for a few hours is possible without any hassle. And I had no mechanical issues.
