Fort Loudoun Lake Crawfish Colors by Season

Featured Replies

hey local fisherman, anyone know the common crayfish colors by season around the fort loudoun area? trying to put together a box of "match the hatch" crawfish lures.

I fish green and rust colors year round in East Tennessee but I do not fish Fort Loudon regularly.

Seen crawfish in the water that ranged between Green Pumpkin to Brown.

Locals may suggest putting a dot of orange on the claw but not too much or a few strands of orange in the jig skirt.

Personally, I've done best with black/red glitter but I know some good fishermen that fish green pumpkin year round.

Most fishermen in this area are more concerned about water color than crayfish color. Use a color the fish can see as Ft Loudon water colors will change from stained to muddy depending on weather. Many fishermen use black or black/blue. The actual color of the crayfish are rusty/red in early spring to dark green with shades of brown the rest of the year.

With of lack of rain the water is clearer than normal. Wait until this fall/winter when the lake is so muddy it looks like you could walk on it.
