Carolina Skiff

Featured Replies

8-) hey all: Thinking about a J 16 carolina skiff with 9.9 short shaft (15" Transom) Any suggestions on rigging? Hows it on lakes and rivers? Is it pretty stable? Is the ride sort of smooth. W

hat add on options should I get from the dealer?? Thanks.

Hey there,

I have a Carolina Skiff J-14 with a new merc. 9.9, it has the optional casting deck and the storage seat in it, it also has a 12v battery for the trolling motor. with just me,1 tackle bag and a few rods and real it won't even plane. it's a real pig in the water, I have tried different trim angles, moving the load around and it just won't get on plane.

Now that said, it is a super stable boat when fishing but kind of tight for two people to fish out of.

Buddy, with a 9.9HP it ain't nevah gonna plain.

If you're only fishing small water OR staying close to the ramp or sheltered water on larger lakes, just go fishing and be glad to HAVE a boat.

You'd need, as a guess, a 20 or 25HP to plane that boat.

Good fishing!
