Buying used kayaks---documentation?

Featured Replies

Had a question about buying used kayaks.  Really enjoying the kayak and thinking about buying another for guests.  My question is, is there any necessary paperwork I need to get when purchasing used?  I know when I bought my ride 115 I got my receipt and a statement of origin.  Not worried about warranty or anything, but just proving its yours and maybe registering it if I want to put on a trolling motor.  Just wondering what those who have bought used have done?

thanks

that should be all you need depending on your state.  Some companies will also provide another origin document if asked.

In my original post I forgot to mention that I bought my ride new from a retail store.  I'm now looking at a couple cheaper used ones for sale. Sorry for confusion.

If no docs with the used boat get a bill of sale from the previous owner.  Find the serial number on the boat and make sure it is listed in the bill of sale.

if you ever plan on putting a trolling motor on it, you will likely need to register it with your state.  i had to get a bill of sale, country of origin and can't remember what else in order to do so in GA.

Ive sold 2 of my old ones both times we just swapped cash for the kayak.  I never did a bill of sale and the buyers never asked for one.   If you do need one you could print one up in 2 minutes from ur computer.  In fact I dont think either of the ones I sold had a serial number on them. I did own a pescador it did have a serial number but it had structural issues and got returned to  perception. Pretty sure my feelfree doesnt.
