what size trolling motor???

Recommended Posts

I have a  small 14 ft jon boat and want to put a bow mount trolling moter on it.  The boat is very shallow so i was wondering what size shaft would you put in the front of it.  I ran a shallow transom mount that had a shaft of around 36" but i have not found a shallow bow mount.  Just need a little advice??

you can cut, or have the shaft cut to your needs. be careful not to kill your warranty, i just got a minnkota pd, and i think i'm gonna have the shaft cut. it would depend on your use how long you need. choppy water requires a longer shaft than small water. i would go with a little more than you think you need, and if it becomes a prob. make it shorter.

Go with a 24 volt, 80 lb thrust, 42" shaft Minn Kota Maxxum. That might seem like a little bit of over kill, but you can always turn it down. However, should you need the additional power it is there.
