Hampton Roads bank bass fishing

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd start a local area topic. Feel free to post your catches in the Hampton Roads area. I fish all over Hampton Roads. Still stuck to the bank but saving up for Hobie kayak. Hopefully will be cruising the water come spring. This is a nice one I got out of some canals in Va beach. And I lost a monster. I had it basically landed but I was on a overpass about a arms length away from the water and no way I could swing it. I got on my belly, reached down and the knot snapped. I was using 10lb braid with 8 pound floro leader and it snapped at the hook knot. Probably my fault...I hadn't checked my line in a while after some snags. I was sick to my stomach...

Glad you found banks to fish in the greater Hampton Roads/Tidewater area.

Great pics.

Keep 'em coming.

Nice catches, Shep!

Hate it when a big one gets away. I know the "sick to my stomach"
feeling all too well.

Jclopp, if you are looking for less pressure, the Lone Star Lakes may be your best bet.  I know some guys fish there, but they don't seem to get the same pressure as the water-supply reservoirs.  The upper reaches of the Blackwater and Nottoway rivers may also be of interest to you as boats have trouble getting up that way.  Good luck.

Yeah I'm stuck to the bank still. I do catch 2-3 just about everytime I go to Lone Star so you should do well there with a kayak.

I know there are some bass in that lake next to BPS.  Also, when spring comes, try renting a Jon-boat from Mariner's Muesum, granted, if they still rent them.  There are some healthy bass in there!

I'm pretty familiar with Newport News park, tough place to get a bite, but when you do, it will be worth it.

Yeah I was gonna fish that BPS lake a few months ago and a storm popped up so I left. Never went back but I will come spring. And I def wanna hit up Mariner's. I took the family there to check out the museum and walked down to the dock. they were doing renovations then but I think they will be opening it back up for fishing soon. Ill check it out spring time.

IF you go to BPSto fish, watch out for snakes.  That lake seems to have a million.  The rocks between BPS and Joes Crab Shack almost always have a snake or two on it and it's just 10 feet from the parking lot.
