Trowling Motor Stuck on 1 Speed

My variable speed MotorGuide has only 1 speed.  Any ideas on how to ckeck the rotary switch, or could this be a bigger problem?

    First Check all the Wire Connections underneath the foot pedal, if they are not connected, connect them. If it still doesnt work, take it to a dealer.  

    This happened once before to me, I found one of my conections popped off below the foot pedal and connected them and ran perfect again.
