From where could the oil be coming...

Featured Replies

I have a 2005 60HP Mercury.  Two stroke oil drips down the shaft,  onto the plate above the prop and onto the ground. (or water)   The lower unit has oil on it.  It is a very small amount.  It hardly lowers the level in tank.  I checked tank sending unit and the feed to the injector and they are both dry.   Is there another place (that is easy to see) that could leak oil.

Is it clear, clean oil or black oil?  If black, it's probably just the oily residue coming out of the exhaust.

As blue as when it went in.  It will pool in the cover depending on the tilt of the motor.

I think I would be finding where the leak is.  If in the wrong area, it could pull air in the place it's leaking out of instead of oil and ruin your day.
