Alabama rig questions

Recommended Posts

I'm going to give the Alabama rig the college try this year. I have never thrown this and am wondering what the best way to use it would be. I have the gear to properly throw it. Just wondering where to start and what retrieve would be best. I'm fishing a medium sized man made lake. Any info. Is appriciated.

Fish it just like you would if it was only one swimbait. Pretty much just a straight retrieve for me. Fish it outside weeds edges, over weeds or brush, points, ledges, open water  pretty much anywhere.

I typically use it when I find suspended fish schooling on the graph

This time of year I follow the shad, usually at the inlets, but have found it to be effective along deep ledges, and rip rap.

The key for me is to first see the fish or brush pile on the finder.  Then throw past them and count it down to the proper depth to pull it just over their heads or brush top.
