Just got some jig heads for tunes. Figured it's about time I give these a try. Any specifics I should know before I start throwing them?

Well d**n, I only got 3 jig heads in the pack. Maybe I should have got a couple packs... Guess I'll see how these go before investing in more. 

this kind of tube? are you using them in current or on a lake?

Tubes are awesome. And are known to be deadly on small mouth. But I assure you they work just as well on largemouth. 

About 5 years ago when I lived in michigan, me and a buddy did real well with some Strike king coffee tubes. I've gotten away from tubes.. probably a mistake. 

Tournament last october my boater and i both caught three 5 1/2s largies....just tossing them on deep points and small small branches in short water.

We went 1st and second....it def isnt a smallie presentation

I have won more money on tubes than any other bait. I never go larger than a 3.5" tube. Always T rig it with a Trokar 1/0 tube hook, and a 3/16 Oz tungsten weight. The BPS 3.5 Tender Tube is my go to. sometimes it will last 5 fish, sometimes it'll last one bite. It's not tough, but my hookup ratio is better with that than SK or Big Bites.

You're saying tubes definitely isn't a smallmouth presentation?!?!

That should be exactly what it looks like when I rig it up. 

Throwing it in a lake.  No structure to be seen tho. Not really sure where the drop offs are either yet. 

Rigging with a jig as pictured with the open hook, isn't a good presentation for cover. You will get hung up frequently.  It is, however, the best rigging to get the most out of a tube's action.  If cover is sparse or nonexistent, rig as pictured with light line (8lb. max) and if there's bass in the area, you should get bit.  If there's grass or brush in the area, 'stupid' rigging with the same jig heads will preserve the action and eliminate the majority of hang ups. Tubes and wacky rigged Senkos are my go to finesse baits.
