Visiting Los Angeles, CA and want to get on the water

Featured Replies

I will be in LA for a conference  the week of Feb 20th and would love to get on the water with someone and catch some Cali ditch pickles.

If anyone is in that area with a boat and wants to take me fishing let me know!

Nothing in the immediate La area but Casitas and Castaic are an hour or so north.

I sent you a PM with some info.

Feb is the pre spawn in SoCal, still a drought condition here and the quagga mussel issue restricts where we can fish, boats are locked onto specific lakes now that Piru, Pyramid, Castaic all have quagga mussels, Casitas launch ramp is in miserable shape do to low water level.

Your best bet is hiring a guide; Rich Tauber or Rusty Brown are both good.

Thank you Tom! I have been looking for info on the spawning cycle in SOCAL's warmer waters and have been having trouble finding any reliable info. Plenty of info on the average water temps of SoCal's lakes but I couldn't find anything on when the actual spawn cycle starts considering that the waters average higher temps year round than what I was used to in the northeast and the midwest. I've seen you post really helpful info all over this forum so I'm gonna take your word for it and plan to fish accordingly when I go out next weekend. Thanks again!

SoCals deep structure lakes pre spawn gets going about 55 degrees or now and spawn should start about 62 degrees for the majority of the bass. It's been cold for SoCal and rain has elevated lake levels about 15'-20' vertical feet folding new brush so expect targeting the brush areas, that is where the is located. The water is off color from the rain run off so consider using normal size line and larger soft plastics and jigs, don't believe finesse presentations will be needed.

Good luck,

Tom

PS, look up my Cosmic Clock and Bass a Calendar for water temp to bass behavior.

I'll gladly take your advice! I'm actually picking up some 6" shad swimbaits right now! Thanks again Tom!
