Bearing help for a Shimano Cardiff 200A

Featured Replies

I have a Shimano Cardiff 200a that is whining when I cast. I have cleaned and lubed it as well as I know how with no success at stoping the sound. So I guessing I need to replace the bearings. I have never replaced bearings in a reel before, so can someone school me on the best way to go about it and what bearings you would recommend. I use this reel in freshwater and the marsh so I don't how if I should go ceramic or stainless. Thanks for the help.

If this reel has centrifugal brakes try touching a q-tip with a bit of Shimano oil on the tip of each brake. You can then run the q-tip around the brake race. Many times this is the cause of whining on cast.

Screeching bearings are actually not that common. The brakes are the first place to check as suggested. They should be serviced though.
