Topwater/Jerkbait Rod?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so I was wondering what would be the best topwater/ jerbait rod under100? I was considering the No.*** 6'6" Medium casting rod. Any other rod recomendations? Also what reel, line and gear ratio would you get. I was thinking about 10-12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Any input appreciated, thanks!

Go longer on that rod, the 6'10" one. Go with 8 or 10 of the same line.

The Ike jerk bait rod by Abu is nice too.

I use a 7ft veritas as mine with 12lb big game on a 6.4.1 reel. Have had great success doing so for now

I'm really liking the cabelas tournament zx 6'9 jerkbait topwater rod. They're on sale right now for 69 bucks!

I have one. Really like it, very versatile rod in my opinion.  I have not used mine for jerkbaits as I felt it was just a tad firm but I intend to try it next season for just what it was designed for.  I really like the Winn grip on these rods and have plans to grab a couple more from this series yet.  Great buy for $70!!

Ditto the above. The ZX fishes a tad to the stiff side as Jeff mentioned, but it does a great job with everything from 78 Pointers and MB 110s on up. Lightweight and good balance, and I can't say I've lost a fish to the perceived stiffness. If anything, I think I might get better hook sets. Well worth the money on sale to give one a try! I'd consider 10# line as the norm, then move to 8# or 12# if the baits or waters you typically throw require it.

I could agree with that! (bold)  All the set force is not lost in a noodle tip.

I think on those days when they really want you crackin' that bait, a firmer rod makes life easier.  The biggest reason I have not even tried this rod with jerkbaits yet is because I prefer shorter.  6' is my norm, but I also use some 6'6" once in awhile too now.

I will second the Abu Garcia Ike series rods. I own the Ike Delay series 6'4' jerkbait rod. It is like a 6'6" rod with a bit shorter handle so you do not hit your wrist. It throws and fishes the Pointers and other jerkbaits well.

I'm personally going with a Lews Custom 6'7" MM.Everyone that asked me what I wanted for Christmas I said "Gift cards" I hope Santa comes through.Throwing a BPS PQ on it.Going to try out Sunline Defier this season.

I was going back and forth between the Irod Gen II,Carrot Stix wild orange and the Lews custom speed stick.I chose the Lews because it will throw 3/4 where the others are 3/8 and 5/8.I like that I can throw heavier plugs.

I have way too many stickbait rods, but I bought one of the new generation Mojo's just for the heck of it.

I've fished vision 110's ,pointers and Mcsticks on it as well as spook jr's and sammy's.

Great little rod in the price range.
