Low cost trolling motor

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a bow mount trolling motor for my 14 foot aluminum jon boat. I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on it because i didn't spend much on the boat and don't wanna spend more on the motor than the boat. Preferably a minn-kota, but I'm not picky. Suggestions about models and sources would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you really want cheap, you can pick up a $96 transom mount TM from Wal-Mart, then flip the head around (easy) and mount it to the bow. This worked for me for several years.

Check your local dealers.  I found a Reconditioned Minn-Kota w/ 2 year warrenty for $300.  Mine is probably a bit bigger than you want, it's a 65# AT.  I'm sure they would have something smaller. I've had mine for a year and have had zero problems with it.

The transom mounts are going to run about $100-$150 cheaper than the same trolling motor in a bow mount. If the inconvenience of raising and lowering the troller isn't a big deal, then buy the transom mount and flip the head like Daniel suggested. Add some backing of some sort to mount the troller, such as a piece of 2X4. This disperses the load from the clamps so you don't rip a hole in your boat.

Thanks guys,  I  might buy the transom mount and make do, but I found a guy that might get me a smokin' deal on a lightly used bow mount.
