I was looking through a BPS catalog the other day, and I saw a bracket that makes mounting a bow-mount motor possible on a Jonboat. It is made out of polymer, and it slips through the carrying handle on the front of the boat. There is no support for the motor other than that provided by the handle, and I was wondering if this could put too much stress on the construction of my 14' lowe jonboat and could possibly bend/stretch the metal (like if I bumped the shaft it into a stump at trolling motor speeds)? If you think it would or have heard of this happening please let me know. If this is too risky, there is also a metal version that bolts to the front seat and has a mounting bracket that hangs off the bow. Also, the motor I am planning on using is a cheap minn-kota. Could a guy take off the handle/head section of the motor and turn it around to make it a sort of "redneck bow mount?" I'm not sure what the motor looks like inside and I would rather not take it apart if this won't work. Thanks for your input!

They aren't in perch or crawfish.... just dull grey. Nothing my friend's airbrush can't fix though. I will try this color before going to such drastic measures however.

No, Thats a common mistake. Bream are not found in the USA. Only in Europe and Asia(I didn't know you could find them in Asia until now). Bluegill and Bream are 2 totally different fish. It's pretty common that an improper name gets stuck on the wrong animal in America. The same thing happened with robins, real robins are a little sparrow-looking bird from Europe.

I learned- if you tip your trolling motor battery over while night fishing, and the terminals touch the metal boat seat you are sitting on, you will experience a small-scale electrical storm that is "too close for comfort". This is quite disturbing and I don't think I've recovered yet, 3 months later. I also made myself learn how to use crankbaits, I stuck it out and now I'm decent with them-I'm not giving up soft plastics and jigs(my favorite) up anytime soon though. I learned how to use a baitcaster more proficiently, I can cast with extreme accuracy now. If I think of anything else I will post it also.

I caught a sculpin on a trout lure once, they sure are funny lookin'. I caught a 3" 'gill on a 6" plastic worm. My first crappie was also on "accident" while fishing for bass.

I was planning to get one last trip in this year, but I got hit with a light snow yesterday and it doesn't look like it's gonna' get warmer till next spring :'(. I only got out a few times this year, just couldn't fit it into the work schedule. I might be able to catch a few smallies on the Columbia before it gets really cold, but the bass season is pretty much over for this Northerner.

about 2 inches, I was five or six, and I rigged up a single egg hook with a tiny piece of worm and a bobber right under a dock. Last year I caught a 3 incher on a huge shad-rap. The rapala was twice as long as he was! I wonder what he was thinking. :-?

What sucks is, a bass in these lakes wouldn't know what a shad is if it swam right past his nose. There aren't any in most of these lakes. Sunfish, baby tench(carp), baby crappie, and perch, with the fingerling trout plants that are due any time now, make up the foodfish in these lakes. The same tactics will probably work, but I really wish there was a steady supply of small baitfish, such as shad.

I believe the water is in the low fifties, but I'm not sure. The air temp. has been down to 20 degrees in the mornings for the last week, so I hope to get out there soon.

I may be going on one last bass trip this weekend, I haven't been out since late August, and I'm not sure what they will want. I'll be fishing on a lake in northeastern washington, and the water is starting to get pretty cold. Any general suggestions on what lures, structure, techniques to fish? I got a feelin that a stickbait right under the docks might be the trick, with the bass slowing down for the year. Thanks!

Here where I live in WA, people are very protective of our fishing lakes. You wanna get chewed out, try saying something that involves introducing an invasive species to one of our lakes. Goldfish got into one of the smaller lakes a few years ago and they spent countless thousands of dollars to poison and siene them out of there.

Man, fishermen are more opinionated than politicians! Use 'em all, sometimes it seems like one works better than the other, I have had days where the senko caught double the amount of the tiki-stick, and vice-versa. Besides, everyone who swears that the senko is the only stickbait that's worth the money is selling themselves short. What would you do if the bass were biting the sweet potatoe pie tiki-stick like crazy and you were only doing alright with your senkos(they don't come in that color scheme). By the sound of it, some of you would rather go fishless all day than even thinking of touching anything but the original senko :-?

Here in Washington they have a slot limit with a no-no zone from 11"-17" you can keep 5 altogether and only one out of those can be over 17. In the 3 years since this has been implimented the states fisheries quality have greatly increased. After seeing the results I don't think twice about keeping 3 or 4 small ones for dinner, and on a very rare occasion, a nice 18 incher. I won't keep anything though, until I know that the lake has a good population of smaller bass and can take it.

Thanks guys, I might buy the transom mount and make do, but I found a guy that might get me a smokin' deal on a lightly used bow mount.

I have found that an empty wallet(not too hard to come by when you're getting ready for college in the fall :-/) is the only effective defence.

Has anyone done a side by side test with worms of the same color, poured in 1 and 2 sided molds? If not, have you noticed any difference in catch rate with your buddies using the other version?

I'm looking for a bow mount trolling motor for my 14 foot aluminum jon boat. I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on it because i didn't spend much on the boat and don't wanna spend more on the motor than the boat. Preferably a minn-kota, but I'm not picky. Suggestions about models and sources would be appreciated. Thanks.

What's your experience with this? Since the're cheaper I was just wondering.
