Fishing on the peace river

Featured Replies

I went this past weekend camping on the peace river. The water was really cold but I thought I would give it a try. Fished the river before on previous trips that are usually in November so going in December was a first.

knowing the water was going to be really cold and mostly shallow in most parts of the river we were at I setup my Rod to start throwing soft plastics into cover and deep water. I rigged up a swimbait in the color called baby bass.

After walking the bank and finding a nice bass hiding in cover I threw in the swim bait but the bass kept getting spooked. seeing what was going on I decided to throw a super fluke . it was a pearl white / chartues tail rigged on a 3/0 wide gap eagle hook with a 1/8th bullet weight on 30 # leader and 30# braid.

First cast I made towards the pocket and hooked the bass and what a fight. Ended up catching my personal best of 3lbs. Fished the next day with the same setup but with a different color fluke called baby bass. Fished the banks and fallen trees and caught a couple of dinks nothing big but it was nice to have a weekend on the river we're I caught more then 1 small bass. I really recommend anyone fishing on peace river in this time of year to fish it slow and look for the fallen trees and deep pockets.
