Winter Fishing in Kentucky?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Started fishing this spring for the first time and continued all the way up until now. I hear all about, and read about, winter fishing but I have no idea where to get started as far as tackle and gear. What do you all recommend? I'll be shore fishing as I can't afford a boat yet. Should I wear a bib and parka? I see these advertised as "go to" winter gear.

As far as tackle goes, I hear that suspending jerk baits with a slow presentation are a good place to begin, but I don't know much beyond that. Thanks for any replies!

Hey man, I'm not nearly the expert some of these guys are but I've been having a lot of luck the past couple weeks fishing a drop shot. With all the rain we've had the water levels have finally come back up and it's unseasonably warm so they are biting some. I know that fishing Taylorsville in about 10-15ft. of water in the sunny spots on sunny days has been working for me. Drop shot with a tube or zoom worm working pretty good in ponds too.

Try the ned rig.  Sometimes this is the only thing that will work for me during the winter.
