Heavy Cover

Featured Replies

Would a 7'6" XXH Duckett Ghost be a good choice for a heavy cover all around rod? Am I better off with a 7'3"? I like the ghosts because they are light and sensitive. Thanks

Never had a Duckett rod myself, so I can't speak first-hand, but the "XXH" rating isn't one I would consider for an all around rod... it has a pretty niche use.  Personally, I don't like anything more than a Heavy-Fast for "all around" flipping/pitching.

Length really depends on several factors, but if you're going to be flipping and pitching, and you're of average height, I'd vote longer.

When your boat is fully modified will you have an upper deck to stand up on and flip or pitch.  If you sit or stand below the gunnel of a boat. then do not go for a long flipping stick. It will not work. I loved my Polar Kraft boat and enjoyed fishing from it, however there was no way to use that type of technique while fishing on it.  See the pic below.HPIM0466_zps8kwvpc6o.jpg

Now with my Lowe it is worth owning a 7"6 rod or a 7  foot Flipping stick.  Mine are 7 foot Abu Garcia Veritas rods in MH and Heavy.  I use them on this boat
