Nitro 700 LX 90HP Speed!

Featured Replies

Would any of you guy's know what kind of speed I should expect from a 2001 Nitro 700LX with a 90HP motor, with 2 guy's in the rig and a tank of gas? Thank's

How long is the boat?  I have a 17' Javelin with a 90 horse and with two guys and gas it goes around 45 mph.  However, I only have an aluminum prop on my outboard right now and I've been told you can pick up another 8 mph or so by switching to stainless steel.  So probably anywhere from 45-55 mph depending on your setup.

Hey JV It's a 17' footer and it does have a SS prop, Im looking at buying it, Its' really a nice rig, I just dont want to get on the lake and regret not getting a rig with a 150 hp, although I know that I will pay a whole lot more for more horses! Thx JV

I have a 75HP Mariner

can I really gain +/- 8mph with a SS prop?

If so i will be buying one when my current one gets beat up.

Currently i can get about 40-41mph by myself

The 17 you are referring to is underpowered. I think you will find that boat placarded for a 125 which is a major difference.

Realistic gains from a SS prop over an aluminum is maybe 2 - 3 mph and a better hole shot.   Now, if you have a jackplate, get a high rake prop and play with the setup, so you get more bow and stern lift and more hull surface out of the water you might see a little more but don't start expecting no 7 -8 mph increase with an underpowered boat, it just ain't gonna happen.  Even to see those gains the the boat is going to have to be running light and is going to be very weight sensiitve because you just don't have enough motor to fly the hull to start with.  Speed comes for haveing the right setup and enough power to get the hull out of the water so there's less drag, something underpowered boats have a hard time doing.

Thanks for the info Ben, Hey George! You have a brother named Scott, right? And you guy's guide over at Stickmarch 13! I talk to Scott briefly a few months ago about the G-Blanks that Larry & George make ;Dthose are some great rods for the price! Anyways I appreciate the Info George and to the rest of you guy's also!

I have a 17 foot 1993 Nitro with a 90 Evinrude - goes close to fifty with 2 people.
