  1. Heading down to KY Lake next weekend for my first bass trip of the year. Anyone been there fishing for bass recently with any info? Reports look like they are starting to stage shallow. Any info is appreciated.
  2. Wow, how dumb I am to not have just read the directions instead of asking a question. HA, jk. Let me rephrase my post. I HAVE read the directions and tried everything else I can think of but when I go to select my GPS data to load, it doesn't find anything. It says no MMS found. I'm wondering if anyone else has ran into this. The mapping card is a navionics hotmaps handheld edition. On the navionics website it says it's compatible with the Ifinder H20 so I don't think that's the problem. Any ideas?
  3. I live in Terre Haute, have been to Raccoon up north and Mill Creek in Illinois, both of which would be hard to fish from shore. Sullivan is a nice lake, more shore fishing available but still not ideal. The parks are ok, I'd say Fowler has the best bass fishing from shore. I believe Rose Hulman has a park and lake out their way where you can rent a boat real cheap for the day, you might check into that. Also, if your a college guy and know anyone that lives in Village Quarter Apartments (on Hwy 46, north of Wal-Mart), they have a lake that people living there and their guests can use, it's pretty good size and you can get around it completely from shore. Don't know what kind of fish it has though. I saw someone mentioned Patoka, which I fish frequently and think it's the best bass lake in Indiana, but if you don't have a boat or are going with someone with a boat, I wouldn't waste your time driving that far to shore fish, not much opportunity there if you really want to fish that 8800 acre lake.
  4. I purchased a Lowrance Ifinder H2Oc and it came with a mapping card that includes over 2000 lakes across the U.S. only problem is, when I put the card in and turn it on, nothing shows up. No depth contours, no lake details, or anything. It's like it doesn't know the card is there. Is there something special I need to do to get it to read off the card? Anyone else run into this? Thanks in advance for the help.
  5. It's official, KVD won his 4th AOY title today with Faircloth missing the cut.
  6. I'm going to be staying on Indian Point, do you know what state license I'll need? Or will I need both? Also, is there a good morning topwater bite during the summer? I'd love to get some buzzbait action going.
  7. I ended up getting the Ifinder H2O C with Navionics Hot Maps. I am pretty confident it will do what I want it to. Unfortunately, when I got it, they sent me the black and white version instead of the color one I bought so I have to send it back and wait a while longer before I can test it out. Thanks for the replies and advice though!
  8. I am heading down to Table Rock for the first time ever in a few weeks. I sent you a PM. How high is the lake right now? I was reading some posts from a month or two ago and they talked of it being 14 feet high. What's the water clarity and temp.? If anyone has any advice for a first timer to Table Rock, please feel free to chime in. I have no clue what this lake is like other than what I've seen on TV! Thanks for the help.
  9. Thanks Raul, I think Feb. was the way we're leaning anyway. Just out of curiosity, what season of fishing would it be in November? I mean there probably isn't really a real "pre-spawn" pattern down there is there? I really have no idea, just curious.
  10. I'm wondering if anyone knows the best time to make a trip to El Salto. Actually, I am wondering which is better, Feb. or November? I understand that the bass are probably spawning in Feb., is this the best time to make a trip? I have been to El Salto, 2 years ago in June, and the fishing was good, we caught several fish over 6 pounds and 1 that went close to 10. Planning a return trip and can't decide between November and Feb. I haven't heard of anyone fishing there in November so if anyone has some info, please let me know. Thanks.
  11. Also, I see there is an optional external antenna, is this necessary or what is the advantage? Does it keep it's signal pretty well without the external antenna?
  12. Has anyone used the ifinder H20 by Lowrance? I'm looking for an affordable GPS but don't need a sonar with it, was wondering how the ifinder worked out. How is the base map package that comes on it? Also, is there a specific lake map package that you'd recommend loading on it?
  13. Awesome, glad to hear we might hit it right for the shallow bite. Do a lot of fish spawn in the smaller "pockets" off the main lake that aren't really quite a bay or is it better to go to the backs of the biggger bays like sledd and bear?
  14. How are things looking? Less than 2 weeks and I'm there. Can't wait.
  15. Thanks all, I just saw on TVA's website that the water is now 6 feet above summer pool and rising? How's that effecting things. I hope it stabalizes some before we get there. I'm sure my campsite is under water right now. I'm hoping to catch em shallow, I seem to fair better that way. Thanks for the updates, keep em coming.
  16. How's things looking down there now? Water temp.? Level? Any reports?
  17. Thanks. I'm wondering how the already high water is going to affect the spawn. I heard a lot of fish are already shallow due to flooded brush, I hope it doesn't scatter the fish too much if the drop the bottom out the lake. I would deffinitely appreciate an update every now and then if you get out there. Thanks again.
  18. Don't all respond at once. ;D
  19. Coming down to Kentucky Lake again this year, only this time about a month earlier than usual...April 26-28. I'll be staying at Big Bear. Judging from reports of years past, might be hitting the spawn that time of year. Full moon is the 20th of April so I'm wondering if that will put a big push of em shallow. Anyone have any advice for that time of year and what that full moon about a week before I get there might do? As of right now I'm planning on throwing a lipless crank on the flats or first drops in the backs of bays and probably a lizard and/or senko around cover if they appear to be spawning. Does this sound like something that might be productive? Any advice would be great, we're gonna hit it hard this year and hopefully pull in some hawgs. I can't wait to get down there. Thanks in advance for the help.
  20. i'm signed up, 11th one so far...not a bad turnout.
  21. Has anyone used this reel and if so what do you think? From what I understand, it is great if you know how to use a baitcaster and adjust cast control already? Was thinking about picking one up, since I feel pretty comfortable with baitcasting. Anyone use any Pinnacle reels? I haven't had one but hear they are nice.
  22. 1999 Javelin 17 Venom - 17' w/90 hp Johnson. Not bad for my first boat.
  23. I'm slowly starting to become a believer, especially around grass. I just think they get fished by everyone and fish grow used to them. Didn't matter this trip though. Being pre-spawn/spawn probably didn't hurt anything.
  24. I do 2 things on my texas rigs: 1: I make sure the hook's gap that I'm using is twice the size of the width of the bait I'm using. In other words, the gap of the hook should be wide enough for 2 of whatever bait you're using. This will help with hook sets. 2: I like to push the hook into the plastic and keep my finger on the other side, when I start to feel the hook point coming out the other side like it's about to poke me, I stop. This seems to work good for me.
