Trolling motor circuit breakers
Well I changed out my circuit breaker on Tuesday and put on the bigger (50 amp) one. I took the boat out on Wednesday and everything worked great. Knock on wood, but the trolling motor didn't cut out once. Everything else fired right up and ran well too. Great day to be on the water, high near 70 and just a calm breeze blowing. Thanks for all the replies.

Which would you choose?
That was exactly my first thought, but after reconsidering, this crossed my mind: I love to get to do 2 things in my life... 1.) bass fish 2.) i have to keep the wife happy for the other

Which would you choose?
I have the option of fishing one day this week (wife is restricting me) :'( But since I haven't fished since fall, I'll take whatever day I can get. My options are, Tuesday, the second day in a row of warm weather and mostly sunny or I could fish Wednesday, the third day straight of warm weather, but slight chance of showers and probably over-cast. This warm-weather will be the first spring-like temps. for my area so far this year other than 1 or two days here and there. I don't know if I want to go Tuesday when it's going to sunny and maybe warming the water up faster or if I want to give it the extra warm day and go on the warmest day of the week, which would be Wednesday, but probably cloudy. What would you do?

when is your weakest time to fish
Anytime I'm on the water and a boat full of bikini clad women goes by, for some reason my concentration is elsewhere and I feel the need to fire up the outboard and make a run (after the boat that just passed).

Quick Opinion Needed on which Trolling Motor..
I have a Minn Kota and have been pretty satisfied with it but if I were to buy a new one I would get a Motorguide. Reason being, my Minn Kota is a 50lb. thrust, my uncle has a 46 lb. thrust Motorguide on a bigger boat than mine and his trolling motor is faster and runs longer than mine. Still haven't figured that out but I will be buying a Motorguide next time I get a trolling motor.

Trolling motor circuit breakers
Finally found what I was looking for at Gander Mountain. They had a 40 amp self-resetting circuit breaker and a 50 amp. I got the 40 amp because of the info from this post but then saw zam's post about the tag on his trolling motor saying it must have a 50 amp...so I decided to just call Minn Kota. I talked to someone and asked them what size circuit breaker should I use for a 50 lb. thrust trolling motor. She said typically on high, a 50 lb. thrust trolling motor will draw between 43-47 amps so I should use a 50 amp circuit breaker. She said the 40 would work if I hardly ever ran my trolling motor on high. Thanks for all the replies and tips. Just thought I would share what I found out.

Trolling motor circuit breakers
I was having kind of a crappy night until I read the new posts! That makes me feel a lot better. I'm hoping it is just the breaker and not anything major. I was just sitting here thinking about the time I'd have to spend rewiring everything or even worse, the money I'd have to spend on a new trolling motor but now I have new hope. Thanks for the replies!

Trolling motor circuit breakers
I am starting to question myself about whether or not it is indeed the circuit breaker. The motor will run for a while and then it will cut out. If I sit there for a minute or two it usually starts working again without me doing anything other than waiting. Does this sound like it could be the wiring being too small for the trolling motor I have or do you think it could still be a circuit breaker? I wouldn't see how the breaker could trip but then start working again after waiting for a few minutes. The trolling motor on the boat is bigger than the one that came with it but was put on by the previous owner and I don't have any of the manuals that came with it. Any ideas? Is there anyway to test and see if I'm drawing too many amps or if the wire is too small, and if so, how would I go about doing that?

Yeah, not looking to keep bass, just catch some. What kind of boat did you use when you fished it, if you don't mind me asking.

Trolling motor circuit breakers
I have been looking for a 50 amp circuit breaker and can't find one in the style that I have on there now. The biggest I have found is 30 amps. Can anyone tell me what kind I should be looking for? Links and/or pictures would really help out. Thanks.

Fishing power plant discharge lakes in winter...
Is there any regulations on Merom as far as motor h.p. or anything? Speed limit? It's about a 1500 acre lake if I'm not mistake, right?

Fishing power plant discharge lakes in winter...
I am going to be fishing a power plant discharge lake next week and I am looking for some advice. I've never fished a lake like this before and it is still very cold up so I'm sure I'll probably be looking for the warmest water I can find. Any suggesstions on what kind of lures/presentations to use in this situation? I'm not sure how warm the water will be in certain areas but I'm going to guess around 60/70 degrees. Maybe someone who's fished some power plant lakes might have a better idea.

biggest bass youve ever caught?
Biggest bass I have caught so far is a 5 lb. 10 ounce largemouth out of Patoka Lake in Indiana. Caught it cranking a Firetiger Berkley Frenzy medium diver off of a rocky shore that had some vegitation coming out about 5ft off shore. Fought so hard I thought it was a 7 pounder. Going down to El Salto this June and I'm hoping to break into the double digits there.

Does anyone have a stereo in their bass boat?
I have a killer stereo in my boat... Bought it for 15 bucks at Wal-Mart. I decided to just go ahead and get a little cd/cassette/radio and put it in my boat. Fits underneath the console or in a storage compartment. Runs on batteries or you can do like I did and cut the 2-prong end that goes into the wall off of the electrical cord and put an end for a car electrical outlet (cig lighter) on in it's place (just make sure you unplug it from the wall before doing this ;D ). I have two outlets in my boat that I can plug into if the batteries go dead. Works great, it's cheap, and you can store it almost anywhere. Plus you can take it out of your boat and use it elsewhere .

Trolling motor circuit breakers
Thanks for the replies. I was going to use a 50 amp but wasn't sure if I should. I don't have the manual for the trolling motor, the guy I bought the boat from must still have them or threw them away. I have had line wrapped around the prop before and it's easy enough to remove but it's clear of anything right now. I'll see if I can find a 50 amp and put it on. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Trolling motor circuit breakers
I have a 50 lb. thrust Minn Kota trolling motor and where the wiring hooks onto the battery, there is a little circuit breaker (I think that's what it is anyway). A lot of times when I'm using the trolling motor for a while, it will stop working all of a sudden and I have to give it a few seconds or minutes and then it will take off again. I put in a new outlet and plug when I got the boat because the other one was really small, so I don't think it's the plug. It stopped working on me a while back completely and I replaced the circuit breaker that was on it when I bought the boat with a new one (the largest they had was 30 Amps) and it worked again, so I'm assuming that's probably what it is this time. My question is, what size circuit breaker do I need so my trolling motor won't cut out on me when it get's too hot or whatever it is that it's doing. Do I even need a circuit breaker or do you just hook it straight to the battery? Would 50 Amps be a sufficient one? Thanks in advance for your replies.

We have figured out that you can buy just the pvc balls with the holes in them without the pipe. Price is $20 for 3 balls. Then you can get the 1/2" pipe from somwhere else for quite a bit less and make your own as large as you'd like to. You can also go for a less expensive pvc, such as sdr 21 instead of sch. 40 to make it even cheaper. When you go this way it's not quite as much money to swallow for something that you're going to sink to the bottom of a pond anyway. ;D

Has anyone seen these advertised of in the stores? Was wondering what your opinions of them are? In case you haven't, here is a link: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=73759&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=11&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse The instance they would be used in my case would be for a pond about 4 acres large. There is already rock piles, stumps and laydown logs in the pond placed there by us but we were thinking about using some of these as well. Do you think they would work well? What would you like and dislike about them? Just wanting to see what everyone else thinks.

Trolling motor help
I finally got around to looking at the trolling motor this week. I took off the cover but the arrow not being snapped on wasn't it. There are 3 gears inside, one that turns when you move the foot pedal, one that turns off of it and one that turns off the one in the middle to move the arrow. The middle gear actually popped up and wasn't in the gear that turns when you move the pedal. Had to take the pedastal that the arrow sits on loose and put the gear back in but alls good now. Thanks for the advice though.

Before and after bass boat.
Very nice! It would be satisfaction enough just to pull a rod out of the self-built rod locker everytime you want to go out. Good looking boat!

Can I tow with a ford 6
I tow my boat with a Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It is a 2001 and has a 4.0L V6. I've never had a problem. I haven't made a run of 600 miles with it but I have made a run of a 2 or 3 hundred and back more than once without any difficulties. I asked my mechanic about it when I got my boat, they didn't forsee it to be a problem either. Good luck with everything.

Need Johnson Outboard Decals
When I bought my boat, the paint on the outboard was bubbling up and this caused it to flake off in places. My uncle works in a body shop and is taking care of it for me this winter while I have it put away for a while, but I am going to loose my deals because the whole motor cover will be stripped down and repainted. Does anyone know of a dealership or place on the net where you can order new decals? I have only been able to find old and antique motors and decals on the net. I know you can have them made but I'm sure it would be cheaper to just have order them. I would like to keep everything as original as possible. Anyone else ever run into this problem?
