TAT6101MXB  (lure wt ratings 3/32-1 oz)

 

Anybody have this 6'10" M/XF Tatula casting rod?  I just acquired one through a very good deal and am curious if anybody here has one and what they use it for.  It is labeled Finesse/Drop shot I believe but it is quite unique and would probably be a fantastic light/small cranker as well.

Interested in any replies.  I bought this rod as well because of its interesting lure range.  I must admit the thin tip has me a little leery.  I think I only took it out once.  Really enjoy my other Tatula rods so I'd like to know what I should be casting on this rod.  Also like to know what range it actually will handle, and if I need to be extra careful casting with it.

I bought it to do small/light cranks etc (3/16-3/8 or so).  I'm going to start there with mine but this is a unique rod with lots of possibilities.  I don't plan to push it beyond 3/8 oz,  I have other rods for that.

 

I can see it doing well with drop-shot if you prefer a casting rig for that.  About anything light down to 1/8 oz maybe.

Thanks, Jeff.  Like you I have plenty of rods for 3/8 oz. and up.  I read it was used for drop shot on another forum, but that is a technique I've never tried.  Bought some terminal expressly for trying that next year.  Never thought about a crankbait, but any rod that will load for 3/32 oz. lures should have no problem keeping a bass pinned with a treble hook lure.

 

What reel are you planning on using with it?

Well, I'm not sure yet.  Probably try my Alphas Type F to start with and see how that goes.  Maybe one of my TD-Z's or a Tatula CT

 

If either of my T3's were 6.3:1, I'd be putting one of those on this rod for certain.  Unfortunately both mine are 7:1 and I don't want that on this rod.

Bringing back to the top in hopes someone with actual experience with this rod will reply.

 

I think one of my T3s has a 6.3:1 ratio.  We have many of the same reels except mine are the original Tatula Type Rs instead of the CT model.  I have an Alphas Type F and a few other Alphas models.  A few TD-Z 105Hs and a 103ML.  Decisions. 

 

Jeff, can you edit the title to include the rod specs?  Never tried once I posted.  Maybe if the rod is specified in the title, we can get some answers.

Yep, we share many reels even going back to the Cabela's Prodigy A.  I think that was you, was it?

 

What reel do you have on yours?  What did you throw with it the one time you took it out?

 

I can't wait to try this one out!  Looking at that tip you get a little concerned but it does feel pretty good.  pretty unique build.

Yup.  Got one of the gray Prodigy's that was tuned and upgraded.  Solid reel.

 

Right now I have a highly tuned and upgraded Sol on the rod, but with standard gears.  New higher speed gears may have to be the next improvement for this Sol. I have a 1/4 oz. (I think) spinnerbait on it.  That is the type of lure I use for the vast majority of my practicing because they are hard to lose.  Currently have 22 spinnerbaits on rods.    I also like fishing a spinnerbait.

 

Wife and I are hoping to move to Florida this spring.  If that happens, I will be fishing a lot more.  The fact that I can actually catch fish there most days has me excited to get out and fish techniques I've read about but never tried.  Fishing in this area is BAD.  I'd have a lot less gear if fishing was good.  The only reason I didn't give up again was because of new-to-me gear.  Now I have too much to even think about quitting........................or just enough after the move.  

I wouldn't gear that Sol any higher, but that's just me.  I happen to really like that ratio and use my 100M for spinnerbaits. 

 

I just got a Tatula CT 5.5 that may end up on this rod.

 

 

With two Sols and 3 Alphas at 5.8:1 and a 103ML at 5.7:1 not sure I need that many, but they do even out the faster reels a bit.    

 

Still waiting for someone to give an opinion on what is best for this rod.  Come on guys.  Surely a few use it.

Wouldnt use cranks with xf.

 

This rod is for finesse and weightless presentations.  1/4oz jigs, shakey heads, light weight texas rigs, weightless senkos, tubes, dropshots, soft jerkbaits, small swimbaits

If it has a light tip how would NED rig fair??? Ive liked the ned on M/F rods of mine.

I looked long and hard at this rod, my understanding is that the action is based off of the the Steez Megatop rods (nearly identical specs).  Here's a review from a few years ago of that rod to help you understand it.   My analogy would be if you could take a 3 piece Medium powered travel rod and replace the top section with the tip from an UL rod.

This was my favorite rod tatula ever made. I was tossing big topwater spooks with it and it handles great. The rating is silly. 1/32-1... smh ⅛-¾ is what it should say. But still great rod for all purposes almost. 

But last week the tip guide just fell off?. They replaced it with the wrong model. I’m ticked about it right now but hopefully they’ll correct it. 

That guide always did look “iffy”.

Great Ned. Great anything under 1oz and doesn’t dive too deep.
