Small Kentucky lakes for kayaking trip?

Featured Replies

I live in East Central IN where the LMB fishing is less than favorable. I'm hoping to take a trip with my father down to Kentucky sometime in May to find some better fishing. Last year we tried Cedar Creek Lake, but the water was drawn down so low that all of the spawning flats were above water, so we had no luck.  Does anyone know of any small lakes in Kentucky that produce decent largemouth? (less than 500 acres preferably) The reason I'm looking for a small lake is because we fish entirely from kayaks. I really appreciate any suggestions!!

Nobody?

Have you thought about southern Illinois? We have 3 10hp lakes really close to each other. Google Cedar Lake, Little Grassy Lake and Devils Kitchen Lake.

Thanks for the suggestion! Cedar Lake definitely looks like it might be worth a weekend trip. About a 5hr drive. Do you have any suggestions/secrets I could borrow if I go in somewhere around mid April-mid May?

Cedar and Grassy are deep clear water lakes with lots of submerged grass. It's hard to throw anything open treble, but it can be done. Worms, flukes and top water work for me. The lake "expert" I go with almost exclusively fishes worms.

Shoot me a pm when you go and we could boondoggle.

Greenbo Lake is about two hours east of Lexington. Also a small lake and easy to kayak. Tough fishing though, Its a very clear deep lake with a lot of hydrilla and a bunch of laydowns in one arm of the lake and shallow grassy flats in the other arm. The second picture is my personal best from this lake and the first picture is last years sampling done by the Kentucky Dept. of Wildlife. Yes, I was in a Bass Tracker on this day but I kayak fish quite a bit when my fishing partner has other things to do.....lol
