Need Advice

Looking into buying a kl 120 PRO, a little bass boat. I have a 10ft Jon boat now. I'm not looking to spend crazy money on a new boat, at least not now. Should I spend the $1300 on this KL pro, or should I wait and check the classifieds for a 12-14ft job boat. Just got back into fishing and I can't get enough, any advice from you guys would be appreciated.

Bassguy,

The kl 120 is not a bad boat. My uncle has one and it works pretty well for smaller lakes. I like it because it has the "feel" of a bigger bass boat (i.e. storage, livewells). But a major draw back is that it is plastic. Sure, if you take great care of it will last a long time (7-10yrs max?), but what I have experienced is that aluminium jon boats stand the test of time. I have a 12ft jon at our 10 acre sand pit and its over 45 yrs old. We drag it accross rocks and sand into the water and beat it. It stays uncovered outside year round (in Nebraska, cold and snowy winters) That thing is a tank! I know that Low_budget_hookers has a jon boat that is in the 1960's or something. The seem to last a long time and hold their value.

So my $.02 is that you should wait for a jon boat in the classifieds and buy one that way. Try and get a 14ft one if you can, you can always use the extra room. Keep us posted on what you decided.

Thanks Live 2 fish,

I think your right on waiting for something like a 14fter to come along. I have a 10ft now, and like it but now that I'm fishing more a 14ft that I can fix up and re-do would probably be the best wait. I think I was being lazy on wanting the KL 120 Pro, I wouldn't have to do any work with it. But being a contractor fixing up a 14ft should be no problem. Thanks for the advice.

A select few here may disagree with me, but IMO plastic boats = teh suk. They are better than bank fishing but not much.

We have a paper called the Bargian finder...

there are usually some good deals in there...I think If I were looking for that kid of boat...watching the papers is how I would go...

My onlt worry with buyingused is the motors...but with that style, motors are affordable...
