Opinions on....????
Anyone use Okuma Baitcasters? My wife uses the Okuma Spinning reels...all different models...and they are fairly nice reels and have held up well for the money she has paid. In fact the only trouble I know she has had with any of her Okumas was one got squeeky. They seem like a good reel for the money regardless of what price range you buy in. Does this hold true on their baitcasters as well? What other reel brand would you most closely comapre them to????

Products & methods used for patching aluminum boats
the brazing rod thing only lasted one season on my boat..then started weeping water. Did not crack really, but did weep water. Mine patch was along the keel about mid boat though....alot more flex and stress there than what you are doing with it. good luck

What makes a good fishing partner?
patience, flexibility, and not take things so seriously that he/she spends all day cranky....and for God's sake there is no belly-achin allowed on my boat! If you need to whine about the cruelty in life get a priest.

Small Local Club
we do all our scheduling before January...usually end of November, or in December...otherwise we are fighting for ramps and dates. our director also calls around and has meetings with some other local guys to try and avoid overlaps etc. It is the out of towners that always goof it up for us. Last year we had several clubs come in...no permits, no nothing...

Jack plate installation
...maybe use the third hole from the top and the seventh hole from the top on both sides...that way you can move it up and down two hole locations in either direction???? ...looks like that will give you about 3" adjustment up and down????...I would think that 3" would enough to fine tune things. I have never had or installed a jacker but I hear sometimes just an inch makes a big difference.

Silver Thread???
Who uses Silver Thread line???? like it? hate it??? why?

Splicing transducer cable
I spliced mine on the fly one day...strap broke and the wire fell and got cut by the trolling motor bracket in the middle of a tournament... It worked afterwards. It actually stayed that way for almost two months until I decided on a replacement.

Re-waterproofing rain gear?
depends on the material...columbia makes alot of different jackets. I used to get this stuff from "Army Navy Surplus" near me before they closed that was for tents etc. It was a gel you rubbed on. It worked pretty well. The last stuff I got was something a friend of mine had from sierra Nevada or someplace like that...it was just you typical spray on waterproofing. Does not work as well as the gel, but still works okay.

What Category Are You In?
well...success not being the determining factor on style...I would say that I make an effort to be a "bass fisherman"...though I am guilty of being a spot fisherman at times, especially when I am frustrated. I will go back to just hitting spots I have had success at in the past. I will say though that most "bass fisherman"...especially those that are consistant and successful are successful because of "pattern fishing"...and most bass fisherman do pattern fish...I am not sure that the two can be seperated.

Have you Had Problems With Bass Pro Shops?
Did you purchase with a credit card??? I have found that these instances are not usually the fault of the company, but...when purchasing with a credit card...it is the credit company itself that is the hold up. Bass Pro may not have or be able to offer you an answer.

Opening A Fishing Store
now now now... I kind of agree with the "cannot compete with the big boys" and the death of the mom and pop store...and kind of don't... The key here, I think, is to offer something that the big boys do not... Look at the pet industry. We have petco, petsmart, pet supplies plus, and Capitol pets all withing driving distance of my house...but there are as well a myriad of small pet boutique style stores that do very well. They sell things that the big boys do not, carry specialty items the big stores do not, and offer services that the big boys do not. How to do that with fishing??? I have no freakin idea

Fishing Log's and Notes
I use the log from here as well. I cannot say that I use it as religiously as I should. In fact, I am pretty bad about it. ...next year will be different I hope. HEY....graphs do all these cool things now with all the software and GPS, waypoint etc...wonder why one of the companies doesn not do a log system right in the software of the graph. ( or maybe they do????) The graph already knows alot of the information...water depth, temperature, date, time, where in the lake you are, what structure you are fishing...even what lake you are on... with just a multiple choice drop down menu for wind, air temp, fish weight and numbers, etc... you could keep a downloadable log with your graph... use a CSV file system and it would be easily uploadable to Excel and most other spreadsheet programs. I would buy that

Missed Fish!!!
...dont ya just hate that! Wife and I had a day like this not too long ago...we had alot of fish on...and alot of fish off... we never did figure out what caused it that day. We tried different hooks, different colors, different line...still lost about 1/2 of all we had on that day.

Is there anything I can do?
without a slot limit...I think your hands are kind of tied. If there are Catfish and Trout in the Res. I think they are kind of keeping the wrong fish...eating wise...but anyway... Two things... 1. I do not know how your state is but here in Indiana it would have to be a managed Res. for anyone to care. There are little lakes like this all over my area and some are town/county/or state property...others no one seems to know who the heck is responsible for them and no one really seems to care. In my personal experience if I happen to be on a Indiana DNR lake the DNR responds like an over anxious fire department. The town and county lakes you can never sem to get anyone to even answer the darn phone...and several of the little places near me are completely unmanaged and there is no one to call even if you did have cause. 2. I have found that calling the DNR and just asking questions sems to be of some benefit. I called about these guys keeping buckets of bluegill...not being a bluegill fisherman I had no idea of size or numbers but they sure had ALOT of fish...I called and asked and the DNR officer ended up asking me alot of questions and when on the same lake THE VERY NEXT DAY...there was a DNR officer walking the shore checking buckets and licenses. It was not long till the numbers of shore fisherman fillng their buckets was down to nearly nill.

LineX on Boat Bow
Linex seems like a permanent solution to a temporary problem. The water levels will likely return to normal...and then you have linex ( which will likely hurt resale value) on your boat.
