best all around rod for lews speed spool 6.8:1

Featured Replies

hey guys im about to get a lews speed spool 6.8:1 baitcaster,

i literally have no clue what rod to get tho,

my question is what is the best all around rod, (im on a budget around 70$), thanks

I guess a lot of it depends on what you plan on doin. I saw that the Abu Veritas rods are on sale at TW for 80. I would recommend either a 7' M/f or MH/F. They seem fairly stout to me but i can still throw a weightless senko on the 6'9" mh/f. I was just tryin this out the other day and was getting pretty decent distance with it - ~30 yards on average. My reel was the Lews Tournament SK from GM and 17# Red Label. The Berkley lightening rod is a lil cheaper and supposed to be pretty good as well.  Good luck.

For $40 at Walmart you can pick up a Berkley Lightening Rod Shock. I have two and can recommend a 6'6" medium heavy or 7' medium heavy as an all purpose rod. You can also shop other retailers such as Dicks or Gander Mtn and often find $20 off $100 online. The Lews tp1 series are good as well as the new Lews Mach series if you want to keep things brand loyal. Also the spring classic sales are coming soon for Bass Pro if you can wait they may have decent deals on their in house products.
