GL3 vs e6x

Howdy Folks,

I have searched and read some older threads on this, but nothing recently published......for those that have both the e6x and the GL3, what say you.

I am comparing separate rods for Jigs, cranks and large top waters.

I really like my e6s spinning rods, but looking for info on BC'ers.

Thanks in advance,

Al

I cannot say much about the e6 but I fish with some GL2, GL3 and IMX rods. They have always been good except for a reel seat on a newer IMX spinning rod. It kept loosening up. The blanks a great so I had a custom rod builder strip the plastic junk off and replace the entire cork handle and reel seat.  Just be careful and put a reel on any rod you would buy.

I have a bunch of GL3 rods (all spinning) and one E6X Mag Bass baitcasting rod (MBR843c). I find them to be extremely similar. both very good, sensitive and lightweight blanks.

The folks who run tackletour have stated that they would take the E6Xs over the GL3s (stated this in their holiday Xmas tackle roundup last year).

I think although the GL3 is a more expensive rod in terms of current retail cost, it is also a less modern blank than the E6X. its been unchanged since the 90s.

Given this, I would probably go E6X given the choice, esp. since they are offered in so many tapers. I really like my MBR843 E6X. I have mine paired with a Curado 200i:

nice!!! wish I had them

To me they are close but I feel like the e6x is a slightly better rod, especially for the money. I don't see why I would spend more on the gl3.

I have been looking to buy my first GLoomis rod and have been doing quite a bit of research.  I don't own either one but I have fished a couple GL3's.

In my research I have found many articles and videos that compare the two.  90% of them state that the E6X's are better rods, especially for the price difference.  From what I have read, the E6X's are a just a bit better in terms of sensitivety and just as good quality, but the components are a bit less in quality.  That's not enough to be a deal breaker between these two rods in my opinion.

Its a no brainier for me.  I'm buying an E6X in two weeks and I can't wait!

Now to start saving for my first NRX?  My wife won't be happy, but I just have to!

My gloomis rods are imx's I have no experience with the gl3 but the few e6x rods I have handled left me impressed. If I were looking at a gloomis rods I would look at the e6x.
