Castaic Lagoon

Featured Replies

hello,  anyone fish this lagoon?  do you have any success?  from the shore or from a boat?  electric motor only  thanks

With the quagga mussel problem the protocol at the Castaic lagoon is in a state of change regarding launching a private boat. The boat must be electric powered or no power, must pass inspection and be clean and dry. If the boat has a trailer the trailer can't touch the water and is launched and recovered by hand. There maybe a 8 day quarantine period?

You can fish from shore. There is float tube fishing allowed during special events.

The water level at the lagoon is several feet lower than full pool a few months ago.

Bass fishing at the lagoon is decent, they no longer stock rainbow trout so the giant bass population isn't what it was a few years ago.

Piru is in sad shape, infested with gauges mussels, only 15% pool level and closed to launching.

i stopped by the deli/bait shop near the lake and asked how the fishing was at the lagoon a was told not very good now as water is being added to the lake from the main lake(i guess). but was also told it gets better latter.  also is there a bait shop close to either piru-castic-pyramid-fillmore-santa paula?  or is there one in ventura?  ?or do i have to drive down to the 215 and visit the bass pro shop in  rancho cucamonga?

Tackle Express is in the next town over, Canyon Country.  i've never been to the brick and mortar store but have bought stuff from their website a few times.

thanks!

I managed a 7.5Lber out of the lagoon a year ago.   fish the area by where the water comes out the pipe.  there is lots of weeds and timber over there.  and there is a big hole there too

one last think about the lagoon.  might have to fish from the shore for some time.  should i be aware of any "critters" around that shore line?  eg.  snakes  etc?

  • Super User

It's still to cold for rattle snakes, in a few months they will be out and about so watch where you are walking.
