What one should I buy?

Featured Replies

I need to upgrade the fishfinders on my boat. I have been looking at the lowrance hds gen 2 touch and the humminbird helix g2n. I am willing to spend around $1600. Has anyone had any experiances with either the humminbird helix g2n or the hds gen 2? What one should I buy? Are there any different fishfinders you recommend? Thanks.

There are 12 Humminbird Helix G2N models ----which one?????? They are current models

There are several display sizes of HDS Gen2 and every one is two generations old. There are Gen3 and Carbon models after those.

I think I want a screen around 9 inches. The Humminbird 10 helix g2n goes for I think 1700. The 9 inch gen 3 and carbon are both over 2000. I've also been thinking about the elite 9ti but I've read a lot of bad reviews. What do you think?

The $1700 Helix 10 is the Helix 10 CHIRP MEGA SI G2N. It does CHIRP Side Imaging, CHIRP Down Imaging, CHIRP 2D Sonar and has the 1.2 MKz imaging frequency.

Does all of that right out of the box.

You used "fishfinders" and "willing to spend around $1600" so just one of those is over your budget.

Have you heard much about how it performs? That was the one I was mainly looking at.

Yes, lots of reports about the new MEGA Imaging units.

Just do a web search for Humminbird MEGA Imaging.

I have a new unit that does MEGA Imaging but it is the SOLIX.

I just sold a hook 9 for another HDS gen 2 9" touch. came with the broadband and sidescan transducers, and Insight. 999.00 total. nothing wrong with the gen 2's. just because they are discontinued doesn't mean they are junk. I refuse to play the upgrade game. don't know if it's allowed here, so shoot me a pm if you want to know where to get it for this price.
