Dobyns 703 rods.

Recommended Posts

Wanting to talk about the difference between a seirra spinning rod from dobyns compared to the champion spinning dobyns rod. Is that balance, sensitivity that much better for a 80 dollar difference? Also is the 703 a very good versatile rod for both of these?

703 is a very versatile rod. The difference between the Champion and Sierra is going to be mostly in sensitivity. They are pretty close in weight and balance. From what I've heard around the forums, the sierra has a bit more of a softer taper than the champion, so take that into account.

If you go to Dobyns website they have a couple of 703SF champion extreme trade ins for $220.

This is your best bet. You will not find anything new in the 220 range that will compare to a champ extreme.

If it were me that Champ Extreme would be on order,

I just picked up a Sierra SA 705SF for my wife. I ordered it so she could fish frogs, carolina rigs and maybe big jigs while ledge fishing on the Tennessee River lakes.

I matched it up with a Pflueger Supreme and spooled it with 30# Power Pro Spectra braid.  I tied on a new SK Popping Perch.  If you drop that perch down about 6 inches and just barely jiggle that rod it is so easy to feel it down in the palm of your hand it is amazing.  It cast like a bullet and you can easy feel every blade of grass.  So if your budget is too tight don't feel like you are settling for a inferior rod.  I own as Champion 705C for my frog rod.  The difference between the two rods in sensitivity is not that much.  I am thrilled with both.
