I will be trout fishing this weekend in my new boat. I will be fishing a modified carolina rig. Basically, there is a 1/4 oz weight, swivel, 6' fc leader, and size 8 circle hook. I have four rod holders. In the front, I have two Cabala's 360's. They are really adjustable. In the back, I have two vertical pic pipes attached two the transom. I am wondering what angle I want the rod to be at, compared to the water, in order for maximum sensitivity and so that the fish hook themselves. Do I want vertical rods? Do I want them parallel? Or is 45* best.

I keep mine at about a 45 degree angle most of the time.   There are times I run them horizontally. It's more a matter of how I want the lure to run while trolling than sensitivity. I don't think it has much affect on that.

I am talking about long leaders for poerbait, I feel like 45* is the best, but for trolling, maybe a little above parallel? Seems to be what they do on youtube
