Powell Max 3D Review

I purchased this rod at my local tackle shop for 160$, feels like I payed 200$ plus.. This rod is lighter than my crucials, carbonlites, st. croix mojo bass, and many more, same for sensitivity... this is by far my most sensitive rod, you feel everything, every bump of the bottom, and the smallest bites. Quick tip, a way to test the sensitivity of your rod is to tie your lure on, let some line out and close your eyes, have someone tap the line, and see if you can feel it. I can feel the slightest taps when I do this. I have the 6'8 Med Heavy, extra fast tip version, and I can throw virtually anything on it, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, Texas rigs and a bunch more. Don't worry about the extra fast tip, it can do anything your typical fast tip can do, if not better. It has 10 Fuji guides that are smaller than most guides but not near as small as micro guides. It loads up great, has great hooksetting power, has a great tip and is brutally tough. It is rated for 1/4-3/4 but I have thrown 1oz lures fine on it. I have this paired with the Shimano Curado I and its a beast, extremely light and well balanced. You have one of the best rods they ever made!! I own a Powell Max 683CEF ( just the original Powell version) and you are totally correct it is an amazingly versatile rod.  I decided to get one after doing some research and reading the Tackletour review on it.  It is as sensitive and yet super strong. I fish for bass here on the Chesapeake Bay rivers but often run into big blue cats and stripers. It handles them fine.  I use it primarily as my swim jig rod but love taking it with me on guided trips just for that versatility.

I was set on getting a max 3d until i saw they use the sk2 reel seat. Just not a fan of that.  They have a new rod coming out this fall (photos on facebook) and looks like it will have the ecs seat

Question, do the sk2 not allow for more sensitivity, are the ecs a lot better??

Im very impressed by the max 3D rods. They come alive on the water. Makes my high dollar rods seem a little less stellar. They are that good.

The only sk2 rod i hav fished was a glass rod. I just didnt find the trigger to be comfortable in my hand. Just much prefer the ecs.
