I am looking for a decent locator to use with an inflatable. (SeaEagle 9.)  Does anyone have opinions about the Fishin' Buddy locators?  I am particularly interested in the 4200, but all comments would be asppreciated.

A friend of mine had the bottomline version of those.  It was OK for what it was. I broke after about 2 years use.

I have an older model fishin buddy II. I have used it for a few years. It has serverd me well. I am looking to upgrade to the Fishin Buddy 4200 because of the higher resolution screen.

I have the fishing buddy1200 with the sideview.  It coust me a $120.00 and just may be the best investment in fishing tackle I ever made.  It works great.  I have mine a little over a year.  I don't use it much anymore, but when I no, It works great.

Cant go wrong IMHO

Thanks for the input folks, in light of the positive responses and the lack of negatives, it looks like I'll be buying a 4200 in the near future.

I have had my Fishin' buddy 1200 for more than two years and I absolutely LOVE this little thing. In fact, this thing works so well, I have a hard time understanding how a $1200 model could possibly be 10 X's as good as mine ???

I have graphed all of my favorite spots... ledges... humps... FISH ! And, I have even graphed Sturgeon in 40 or 50 ft of water, dropped my bait down to them, and immediately stuck them ! How cool is that, to "see" a fish, in 50ft of muddy water, and put them into the boat like I was sight fishing or something ? :-)

Anyway, whenever this thing breaks, I plan to go straight home and order the 4200 the same day !

......only negative about the 1200 is that it uses expensive, funky, size C batteries... 3 of them.... and of course they come in a 4 pack. Pretty goofy.

But I see where the 4200 uses AA's.... Which I have all kinds of rechargeable AA's already, anyway, for my digital cameras.

Peace,

Fish

I used the fishin buddy 1101 on my canoe.  It worked great for me.  It's not great at locating fish, but you do get pretty accurate depth contours and temp readings.  For $100 it's the best portable fish finder out there.
