Gentlemen:

The Christmas season will soon be upon us, and I'd like to try and get away with a sit-on-top kayak for fishin the rivers/lakes down here in the southeast.  Can I get a few recommendations for good brands/models to look for?

Check out the forums at georgiariverfishing.com.  Lots of guys fishing different kinds of rivers and streams for bass there.   River fishing calls for a yak that tracks very well and is stable.  Lots of other sites are geared towards big water kayak fishing and recommendations will be for a different kind of yak, one with speed and greater length.  Length can be an enemy in a stream,creek or small river.   Check out Malibu's new Mini-X, the Ocean Kayak Caper.  Cobra Kayaks offers a lifetime warranty, others dont.  Many people will recommend kayakfishingstuff.com.  It has 'interesting' forums, if you like extremely opinionated people.

Yeah, I would also recommend kayakfishingstuff.  I might even suggest you send them an email or give them a phone call, they are pretty good about fixing you up with a kayak to fit your needs.

I think the biggest consideration you will need to worry about if you wont be out on any huge waters is weight capacity and length and manuverability.  I would look for the shortest (aka most manuverable) kayak with the biggest weight capacity.  Stability is also important but with a SOT, these things are like tanks anyway, its really moot with a SOT.

depending on your size you may want to look at the Ocean Kayak Drifter 12' or the OK Caper at 11'.  They are both very wide but short and manuverable.
