Salty Canals? Fort Myers, FL

Featured Replies

I'm on my phone and at work so I'll keep this as short and sweet as possible lol.

All my gear is regular bass fishing attire. Corrosion resistant bearings is all I'm bolstering. Nothing too fancy. My question is about the canals. Primarily the Cape Coral canals if any of you are familiar with them.

Are they salty? Should I feel uncomfortable using my gear in those canals? And if you use your stuff in salt, how do you clean it off when you're done, and how long has it lasted for you using this method?

The Capes canal system are fresh water.

I used to fish them all the time with a local club but don't anymore.

I wouldn't use a b/c reel in salt water unless it's made for it and I had no choice. If you do, a good rinse should be enough.

But personally I wouldn't.

Most of the canals in the Cape Coral area are freshwater there are some that are saltwater or brackish but the majority of the canal systems in Cape Coral are freshwater I fish them every week and never have a problem with corrosion
