Is it bad to use braid with a short leader with cranks? Can I get away with it? What's the difference between braid and fluoro other that abrasion resistance when it comes to square bills. I would think it would make the bait dive deeper because of the super thin diameter. Thanks

I have a couple CB setups with FC and a couple with Braid and FC leader.

832 sinks significantly better than the other braids I have used and is almost iden to to the FC.

 

I will be swapping over my FC to braid

The reason some advise against it is because it is generally 'easier' to work a treble-caught fish in with some give between you and the bass.  A little stretch in the line....a little whip in the rod....full on heavy rod and no-stretch braid might lead to lost fish if you aren't careful.

 

That said, I use braid on med spinning rods for small cranks all the time and don't have an issue...just be aware that the fish gets a little leverage advantage on ya when throwing braid vs fluoro

You can use braid.  However, this situation definitely calls for a more moderate action rod so that you don't pull the hooks from the fish's mouth.

It's because it rips too big of a hole and they are able to throw the hooks.  True what you say about human skin though.
