Bass Lake, CA - Madera County

Featured Replies

I am going to be going to Bass Lake next weekend May 12-14th and wanted to fish the lake. Has anyone fished this lake and know what works and what doesn't? I want to put together tackle this weekend and next week to bring with me. I will also be renting a boat to fish (first time bass fishing from a boat!) and would like to know which areas to focus on. Thanks!

I just took a look, I was planning on doing some drop shotting, tossing senkos, and lipless cranks. Do you think spinnerbaits, swimbaits (Spro and Hudd Trouts), creatures/craws, and big worms would work as well?

Bass lake has few big LMB and they could be in the spawn during your time there. The lake is up with high run off of cold water and I haven't fished the lake in years. Spotted bass are more common at Bass lake. I have had good success using a slip shot rig with Iovino Smallmouth special worms. Casting big baits around the boat docks may produce for you.

I'll probably be there on Sunday morning. Go to Walmart and pick up a pack of missle bait drop craws in pinkalicious  and 4" robo worms in Aaron's magic. I normally catch all of my fish on the drop shot with a few on mid to deep crank baits. If you have a trout pattern swimbait that might produce but I haven't started fishing swim baits yet. You should catch plenty of spots but a fish over 3lbs would be on the large side. When a tournament is held there the winning weight ranges from about 10-15lbs

Last weekend I was catching them on the drop shot about 15' deep. I talked to some me other guys and there were using senko under docks. The previous weekend there was a spotted bass spawn but I wasn't fishing there then.

I would start off fishing docks docks then if that doesn't produce switch to the drop shot at various depths until you find the fish that are active. Just a heads up, the lake has a no wake until 8 rule

I just looked at the drop craws in pinkalicious. They look a lot like Roboworms' Morning Dawn. Would you think both Aaron's Magic and Morning Dawn would work? I have both in the 4.5". Also I was planning on bringing my trout swimbaits. Are there still bass on beds or are they pretty much spawned out?

You might find a few fish on beds but I wouldn't spend much time trying to find them. Spotted bass really like the morning dawn color. Those roboworms should work well, I just like drop craws a little more

I just ordered some Missile Drop Craws to try out. I got the Pinkalicious like you suggested and a more natural color Melon Cinnamon Purple. I'll bring a few Hudds as well, both the 6" and 8" along with the Weedless Shad and Grass Minnows.

Thanks for the tips!
