Anchor cleat mounting on 12 jon boat

Featured Replies

Where are you mounting your anchor cleats? I have a Alumacraft 1236 Jon boat.

Flat bottom or V-bottom?

In the front I tie my anchor rope to the bow eye and in the rear mount 2 ea cleats to the corner brace.

Never anchor off your stern.  Couple waves over the back and life's a drag.

Use bow eye.  No need to add a cleat, just somthing to trip or catch somthing on.  If you do, I suggest using "pop-up" cleats so you can retract them when not in use.  The onlt time I would tie to the stern though might be to drop shot.  Even then, that would be used as the second anchor, just to hold me over a specific spot.  EVEN THEN, I would just tie it to the rear handle.  Got one on each side already,...perfect.

However, I very rarely anchor anymore.  Drift sock tied to the oar lock receptor is the way to go IMO.

Thanks for the replies.

LBH- That's a good ideal using the drift sock on the oar lock.

The has been a major disconnect!

When most people talk boat cleats this is what they mean

These were on my last saltwater boat. For anyone who fly fishes, these are a must. No more stripped line wrapping on cleats.

With a Jon boat it really isn't necessary to install cleats, just use the bow eye and the rear lift handles as LBH has stated.
