Spinning Reel drag Locking

I have a Pflueger Supreme 30 spinning reel. When I loosen the drag the line starts coming off then the drag star turns and the drag locks down tight. I oiled and did some superficial cleaning. Any advice to get the drag working?

    Yes it's the knob at the top that you loosen to let the fish play the line. I loosen it and when I pull line out the knob turns with the drum so the drag tightens down. I can reel the line but the drag is real tight
