I go by, wind and water clarity,  which tells me if I need more or less, color, flash,and vibration. 

If I'm just going for fun, a chatterbait around grass, a square bill around rock and wood. 

 

If i I have an upcoming tournament, I will do some of the same, but also use a big glide bait like a a Deps 250 to see if I can draw some bigger fish out of hiding.
