Anyone use a gheenoe?

Featured Replies

It's all but certain that I'm going to need a trailer for my canoe.

The "Avidone1" isn't old in years, but like many a pro boxer, though tender in years, is pretty beat up looking. (NO LEAKS)

Anyway.  I was thinking of getting a trailer that could be used with my current canoe, (old towne osprey 140) but then maybe get that 13' foot gheenoe.  Probably could avoid needing the side stabilizers and could mount my 44lb. trolling motor more securely on the square transom than on the side of the canoe.

I have decided not to get a jon boat or one of those "bass buddy" type pontoon thingies.

So if anyone out there trailers a canoe, or gheenoe, I would really like to hear from you.

thanks

Hey Avid,   Just curious why no "bass buddy" type pontoon thingies.

I was planing on getting a basshunter this year. Thought it might be perfect for some of the farm ponds and gravel pits I mainly fish.Wondering why you decided against it,just trying to get some input or a different point of veiw.Sorry to get off topic.Just wondering

Avid,  I have been fishing from a Gheenoe for over twenty five years. I have used a 9.9 hp. outboard in the past, but for the last several years  it's been an electric trolling motor . I  get more speed and battery distance than a jonboat because of the long slender shape. These boats are unbelievably stable and I can stand up and fish or even sit on the gunwhale with no problems.  Check out www.customgheenoe.com    Go to the "forum" there are usually some 13ft. gheenoes for sale. However I think that you would be better served with a standard highsider or even an older lowsider which is what I have. Feel free to p m me if you have any ???

Travelin man, which gheenoe do you have, and how do you transport it?

Turtle1 - Most guys on our little lake use the bass buddies.  I, like Tman prefer the more streamlined effect for wind.

I have a  15' 6" model  called a lowsider. This is the same boat as the current highsider except for a little less freeboard. The bare hull weighs approx. 100 lbs. and I use a Performance trailer that is designed for gheenoes. When I first bought the boat and for several years thereafter, I would slide it on top of my topper on my pickup truck. Alas those days are gone. The trailer is better as I can leave my swivel seats attached and keep things in the middle seat/dry storage area. I don't clamp on  the tm until I get to where I will fish. The battery is placed in the bow to offset my weight in the stern.

"performance trailer"?

do you have more information on this company?

Would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

avid.

I have been using an old 13 footer for the last 10 years. Rides low in the water, easy to handle by yourself, and flies with a 45lb thrust trolling motor. I have a small trailer i built myself just for hauling this boat.
