Interfacing IPad with Lowrance Elite5Ti

Featured Replies

This is my dilemma and I'm looking for ideas. I've figured out how to interface my IPad with my Elite5Ti and it all works great----right up until it's time to use it. The IPad is not designed to be used in the sun.  Hence, I can't see the screen on sunny days, and, more importantly, the IPad overheats pretty quickly in direct sunlight.  I bow mounted a ram mount and I have the IPad in a Snow Lizard waterproof case, but now I need to somehow shade the unit so I can see it. Any thoughts?

Just spit balling, but is there any screen protectors out there designed to do this? (similar to the ones we use to protect our phones)

What have your googling efforts turned up so far? anything?

Didn't think of that.  Not sure how to make my request short and sweet.  I am thinking I'm going to need to provide some kind of shade for the unit that doesn't obstruct my view too much

Google was a great idea. There's actually a hooded shade made for using Ipads in the sun.  It looks like it might work as long as the ambient air temperature does not exceed 95 degrees. That'll be a tall order to this summer in Texas. :-(

Maybe you can make your own screen shade and spend your money on a waterproof housing like a Lifeproof?

You have to be careful using your Ipad out on the water during the summer time because if its getting to much sun the Ipad will over heat and shut down. Also while running the GoFree App on the Ipad it will suck the battery level down so best is to put the screen on lock when your not going to be viewing it. Do you have the Navionics App on your Ipad too?

Actually, that's what happened to my IPad and what got me started on this.  And, you're right about the battery drain while running GoFree. I'm set up to charge the IPad while on the water. I don't have the Navionics app.  I should try it.

That's exactly what I've been looking at doing. I already have Snow Lizard waterproof case with a built in battery charger. It's pretty slick and mounts on a Ram mount. Now, I just need to figure out out how to make the sunshade to where I can see the screen while I'm standing at the front.
