New to bass boat need help w/trailer4 Bass

Featured Replies

Hello all this is my first post.  I just purchased a 1984 Bass Tracker TX - 17 with trailer.

I need to make a notarized bill of sale and take the previous owner to the bank to get it legitimized.

I need to know if anyone has a trailer that came with thier bass tracker.

There is no visible tag anymore or anything with info.

Would anyone know if there is a VIN for a trailer??  if so I hope they have a previous regisstration.

Did Bass TRacker make the Trailer??  would it be

Make: Bass TRacker   Year: 1984   Model: ?????   Was there a model for trailerss???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

YES, there is a VIN for trailers in every state and you will need to have the seller provide all documents for everything you are buying. It is up to him- not you to get this straight. DO NOT under any circumstances believe some story. GET THE TITLE!!! It could be tied up in a divorce, about to be taken back by the bank and the bank has the title of 1000 other problems. DO NOT BUY WITHOUT THE TRAILER TITLE IN ANY STATE!!! If you do there is no way to get it straightened out as you are not the owner of record. What a mess it could be and you could very easily lose your trailer.

If you have already bought it then the only person that can get it straight is the past owner whose name is on the title.

Not trying to throw out problems, just trying to keep problems from happening.

I'm pretty certain Tracker made their own trailers back in 1984.  Not sure what state you're in but I believe you'll need a VIN number for that thing before you can title or license it.

In Oklahoma boat trailers do not need a title, registration or tag.  However, the boat and o/b motor (over 5 hp) require title and registration.

Hey 17, what state you in ? Some states don't need titles...only purchase origins or bill's of sale! Some states title the boat, and motor, but not trailer. My best advise is to ask what you need for license plates at your local BMV. Also take the previous owner to the bank with you!

If it has a VIN it should be stamped into the trailer. Not real sure that was a requirement back then. I bought a 1983 Lawson a few years back and it's trailer didn't have a VIN. Georgia is not real pickey about the trailer so I just titled it as home made and used my SSN as a VIN. Many states have a form for home made trailers but you might run into problems, not sure. Like the others said, that's a seller responisbility to provide as necessary titles and paper work. This is to protect you more than anything else, if there is a lean against it and he holds back a title that shows that and you retitle it, the lean company can still come and take it, or make you pay off any outstanding debt.

You should have a Vin number plate on that trailer. Contact your local DMV to see what you can do if it does not. Here in Maryland the trailer has to be licensed through the DMV. If you buy a boat and trailer here the trailer has to be inspected by a licensed inspection station and you have to take this inspection to the DMV in order to get your permanent tags.

Played this game recently

Texas is another state that does not require registration

It would help us tremendously if you tell in what state you live

My sons tracker, 1997 pro team 17 ,has the vin # as most trailers do stamped in the tongue and also a rivited tag on the axle about a foot ftom the passenger side wheel.  As a last ditch effort any trailer can be considered homemade and most DMV's will allow you to registar any trailer consdiered homemade.

hey sorry guys, I did not realize this board was that busy.  I am in NJ which is a non title state for trailers.  Is there a designated location for the trailer VIN?  I am taking the previous owner to the bank.  I do need a notarized bill of sale with

Make, Model, VIN, Mileage which is -, I have his old trailer plate so he needs me to get that back.  He should have a registration, if not we will go to DMV.  I was trying to make up the bill of sale so I was wonderign if anyone had knowledge of this trailer so I could fill in Maek and Model.
