Optima blue top

Featured Replies

I recently purchased an Optima D34M

I paid the high price tag because I needed a battery that I could leave in my truck.  I went with the optima because it's supposedly pretty impervious to leaks.

They also claim that it vents very little gas fumes.  This is also an important factor.

Right now it's pretty cool, but when the air temps get back up into the high 80's which means the inside of a closed up truck could be close to 100 degrees.  Would I be foolish to keep the battery in the truck (rear floor of my extra cab tacoma)

What are some of the bad things that might happen if I still need to minimize my lifting by keeping it in the truck.

Thanks,

avid

Avid,

Can't help you much on the Optima in particular, I don't buy, or do anything with them except swap them out for another brand when I replace them in a customers equipment. I know the brands I deal with, you would have nothing to worry about. Normally, the only time a battery is going to vent any harmful vapors is during charging. After it settles, it should only vent a very small amount of air as heat builds up during the day and pull a small amount back in when it cools off at night. If they are gas valve regulated, they are suppose to be safe to use in and inclosed area.

I removed this las line, I noticed you said inside the truck.  Sit it on a rubber matt and don't worry about it.

Your battery will be ok

Catt, I wasn't worried about the battery.  I mentioned IN THE CAB because I was concerned about the possibility of high temps venting fumes into an enclosed cab.

Way 2 slow answered my question. thanks.

You are worried about ambient heat causing venting

If you think about it your battery gets hotter under the hood than it will inside the cab.

Never mind  :P
