How shallow of water will a Go-Devil run in?

A Go-Devil needs about 9 to 10 inches of soft bottom (water, mud, vegetation) to start from a standstill. That can be 1 inch of water and 8 inches of mud, etc. Once the boat is up and running on plane, it will be able to run in about 1/4" inch of water in soft mud or 5 inches on a hard bottom.

I've got a "Beaver Tail" brand 9 1/2 HP Honda pushing a 14 foot Jon. It will run fine up river but I wish I had more motor. I'm not running 35mph. ;) You can start them in the parking lot and warm the engine. They certainly fill a need and are very economical to run. The mechanical part is straight forward and should last a long time. Easily serviced. A little noisy.

I routinely hit underwater logs, sometimes rocks or gravel, and the guard will kick the prop up.

Like the man said the trade off is weight. Not a problem since I leave it on the boat.

They are different, try one before you buy if you get the chance! :P

Thanks for the link Dizzy. Those are some awesome boats! I love my jet but it is only a 70/55. I can't imagine a 200. I have had clients scream at me, especially in the low water summer months when the water is gin clear, when I am running in 6to 8 inches of water wide open. They see the bottom rushing by and panic, lol. I know you have been in many Jet Drives and it is certainly not for the faint of heart. I have stick steering and I just tell them, " you ought to be up here! " It amazes me sometimes that I make it through some of the water I do. I always tell guys buying their first jet, its a accident waiting to happen. Again, those boats are amazing with the 200 hp and the unique tunnel. Thanks again.
