Insurance cost?

Found out today that TN requires boaters to have proof of insurance.  Planned on fishing a few TN lakes this summer, so I guess I'll have to get some insurance on the boat.

How much does $100 000 of liability usually cost?  Going to visit my agent on Tuesday for a quote, but I'd like to have a ballpark before I go in.

I have $300,000 liability and some extras on a 90 sea nymph GLS 175

insured boat, motor, trailer, and gear

I have Allstate and its under $200 a year

I am about 99% sure that I have a $1,000,000 liability policy

and I think it costs around $400 a year on a Triton TR20. The

difference between a $300,000 policy and a $1,000,000 policy

was so small that I made sure that I was very protected.

I also increased the personal liability coverage on my homeowner's policy

to $1,000,000 as well. In today's "sue happy" society, it never hurts

to be over insured.

I am a guide so I keep 300,000 liability insurance and I think it is around 112 bucks a year. You never got insurance?, why? Dude, you have to change that picture, you are creeping me out, LOL,LOL,LOL, ;D

I have full coverage on a 20' Champion, including 500k liability, it runs about $375 a year. I live in Tn and have never been asked to prove insurance coverage and do not remember receiving a card from my insurance company on the boat. I have been checked by game wardens many times and never been asked for proof of insurance on the boat. I have been checked for registration and Coast Guard required safety items but not proof of insurance. Thanks for the heads up, think I'll call my ins co...........Al

I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW SOMEONE WOULD BE A BOATER AND NOT HAVE INSURANCE COVERAGE :-/

That may be true.  But it doesn't matter how cheap or expensive the boat is when you accidentally kill someone.

Depending on the size of your boat and the HP of your motor, you might already be covered for liability under your homeowners insurance.  Check with your agent.

Hows that for creepy?  Andy Warhol would love it though

Yea, that is what I have. I think mine is covered up to 90HP. My Insurance company is right next to the guy I bought my Tracker from and I stopped in before I drove it home.

Check Progressive as well.  And don't forget to include your tackle as a separate line item.  You'll have a new appreciation of how much you have invested.  JB

Went to the Fishing Expo last night in Knoxville. Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agengy had a booth to answer questions. They told me Tn does not require insurance on boats. One officer said he did not have insurance on his jon boat. I also got a book on Tn boating safety and there is no mention of insurance in the book, however there is a long chapter on drinking while operating a boat and the usual safety equipment and requirements. I would still recommend insurance............................Al

When it comes to insurance, just like everything else in life, three words.......Liability, Liability, Liability.  Because you're not the only one in your boat or on the water.  That's my .04, JB
